MILWAUKEE/NARI HOME IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL ANNOUNCES NEW CERTIFIED PROFESSIONALS
March 30, 2010

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Milwaukee chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), the area’s leading home improvement and remodeling industry resource for more than 48 years, recently recognized at its March membership meeting four individuals from member companies who successfully completed the association’s national certification process.  The rigorous program is intended to maintain high professional standards among members of Milwaukee/NARI.

Each person earned their Certified Remodeler (CR) designation, as they completed a three-month study program and took, and passed, a four-hour written exam:

  • Jeffrey Brady, Certified Remodeler, B & E General Contractors, Inc., Glendale, Wis.
  • Jim Pitzen, Certified Remodeler, Pitzen Design, Ltd., Brookfield, Wis.
  • Scott Sengbusch, Certified Remodeler, The OAR Group, Elm Grove, Wis.
  • Michael Wood, Certified Remodeler, Callen Construction, Inc., Muskego, Wis.

The Milwaukee chapter of NARI’s newest Certified Remodelers (l – r) Jim Pitzen, Pitzen Design, Ltd., Michael Wood, Callen Construction, Scott Sengbusch, The OAR Group, and Jeffrey Brady, B & E General Contractors.  Bob Sebastian, CR, CKBR, (center) served as the study session coordinator.

The certification program helps maintain the high standards that consumers have come to expect when contacting a Milwaukee/NARI member.  Remodeling professionals must meet a number of requirements to qualify for certification, including extensive screening by NARI, demonstrated commitment to professional conduct, and adherence to NARI’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

NARI Certification recognizes the skills and achievement of eight distinct groups of remodeling professionals through the certification program:

  • Certified Remodelers (CR): professional Remodelers who provide a full range of remodeling services.  To become a Certified Remodeler, candidates must possess skill and knowledge in a broad range of business management and technical skill areas.
  • Certified Remodeler Specialists (CRS): professional Remodelers who focus on a specific type of work and serve the needs of homeowners interested in that particular area of technical excellence, such as concrete and masonry work, electrical work, insulation, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, roofing, and siding.
  • Certified Lead Carpenters (CLC): hands-on field personnel who oversee all project aspects – customer satisfaction, personnel management, administration, etc. – while working on the project.
  • Certified Remodeler Associate (CRA): individuals who actively support the remodeling industry as architects, designers, educators, manufacturers, publishers, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR): professionals that have demonstrated a keen knowledge of the latest information concerning kitchen and bath remodels.
  • Green Certified Professional (GCP): professionals who distinguish themselves through work that promotes the highest standards of green remodeling.
  • Master Certified Remodeler (MCR): professionals who have demonstrated commitment to the remodeling industry through support of their local NARI Chapter, NARI National, and/or their local community.  The MCR identifies Certified Remodelers who have withstood the test of time, continue to be successful within the industry, and have agreed to uphold the NARI Code of Ethics.
  • Universal Design Certified Remodeler (UDCR): professionals who distinguish themselves through work that promotes the highest standards in universal design and remodeling.

The Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council was chartered in July, 1961 as a Chapter of the National Home Improvement Council.  In May of 1982, the National Home Improvement Council merged with the National Remodelers Association to form NARI – the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.  With over 900 members, the Milwaukee Chapter is the largest in the nation.

The Council’s goals of encouraging ethical conduct, sound business practices, and professionalism in the remodeling industry have led to the growth of the remodeling industry nationwide and made NARI a recognized authority in that industry.
