The Showcase will feature the following renovation projects:

B & E General Contractors, Inc.: Whole House Remodel and Addition • 910 E. Calumet Road • Fox Point
Directions: Lake Drive to Calumet Road.  West on Calumet Road to home.

This renovation and addition features environmentally sensitive material, as the home now contains the value and style sought by a family incorporating sustainable standards into their life.  Room features include a new entry foyer with custom lead glass inserts and slate flooring, vault-ceiling family room, a kitchen expansion with custom built-in booth seating, first-floor home classroom suite and office, organizational mudroom with a bathroom, and a second floor master suite with an adjoining convenience laundry.  The renovations include a variety of energy efficient features: geo-thermal heating and cooling systems, photo-votallic roof panels, cement-based exterior siding, vegetable-based spray foam insulation, wood floors, low v.o.c. plywood, and cast iron plumbing pipes.  Energy-rated windows were also incorporated into the design.

Barenz Builders, Inc.: Whole House Remodel • 4509 Deer Park Road • Oconomowoc
Directions: Hwy. 16 west to Hwy. 67 south.  East on Armour Road and veer left to Deer Park Road.

The transformation of the original Colonial home into a French influenced manor is evident through finely crafted woodwork and stonework.  The floor plan was updated to feature a more functional and open concept design.  Curved archways, dimensional ceilings, and detailing were added to give the home more character.  A European kitchen emerged with a combination of painted and stained Alder wood cabinets rubbed with aged glaze, granite countertops, and state-of-the-art appliances and conveniences.  The lower level was renovated into an entertainment area, including an “old world” pub with knotty Alder cabinets, a kitchenette, wine cellar, an exercise room with a sauna, a theater room, billiard and game area, and a family room with a fireplace and hand-scraped floors.

Callen Design Group, a division of Callen Construction, Inc.: Kitchen Remodel • 2442 N. Harding Boulevard • Wauwatosa
Directions: From North Avenue, north on 92nd Street (Swan Boulevard) and west on Harding Boulevard to home.

Structural changes were made to open and update the kitchen and renovate the breakfast room into a larger space.  A homeowner’s objective was to create a seating zone to replace the bench seating, so an innovative central island grew out of the wall, creating a focal point of the room that has become the new family “hub.”  Upper cabinets were placed on the south wall to create a niche for a media center – television, phone, and Ipods.  To accommodate several family dish collections, cabinet wall heights were adjusted for top display spaces, with reed glass inserts.  New windows were installed to match those of the rest of the home.  A combination of cherry custom cabinets were mixed with painted Ivory Cre′me, while two cabinet door styles were used.  The back windowed wall that looks into the landscaped back yard has a cafe′-style seating area for one.  A new set of cabinets adorns the previously empty north wall for buffet serving, with a better space for the microwave created adjacent to the new refrigerator and pantry storage.  The walls are painted various shades and hues of olive and cre′me, and the granite countertops are Brazilian-Juparana gold dark.  The new high-end stainless hood/appliances add a sleek look, while the backsplash at the range wall adds an element of tradition to fuse the kitchen with the rest of the home.

Cream City Construction, Inc.: Lower Level • 642 East Lake View Avenue • Whitefish Bay
Directions: I-43 to Silver Spring Drive east.  Silver Spring to Lake Drive and north two blocks to Lake View Avenue.  East on Lake View Avenue to home.

This home has a large lower level and high ceilings. The lower level design features a media room with flat screen television and surround sound system, as well as a wet bar with granite tops and custom cabinetry to match the existing on the first floor.   Both areas feature coffered ceilings.  Also incorporated in the renovation is an exercise area and children’s play space with a chalkboard wall.  The basement is finished out with a guest bedroom and three-quarter bath with additional custom cabinetry.  Storage shelving was added to maximize space usage.

Froze′Design-Build, Inc.: Kitchen, Family Room, Mudroom, and Master Suite Addition • 4320 N. Woodburn Street • Shorewood
Directions: From I-43, Capitol Drive east to Woodburn Street and north to home.  From Lake Drive, Capitol Drive west to Woodburn Street and north to home.

This two-story addition features a new kitchen with contemporary cabinets stained black.  Open to the family room, the kitchen includes glass tile backsplashes, Caesarstone countertops, and a built-in booth.  Clean lines and deep color contrasts gives the room an energetic feel.  The centerpiece of the family room is a new Napoleon Crystallo gas fireplace that provides a warm and relaxing environment.  A convenient new mudroom at the front entrance features cubbies for storage.  The new second floor master suite has a large master bathroom, air massage tub, and a steam shower.

J&J Contractors I LLC: Whole House Remodel • 6030 Doyle Street • Greendale
Directions: From south 76th Street, go past Grange Avenue and go east on Parkview Road to Westway and go south.  Westway changes to Southway.  Go to Sherwood Road and go south, then west on Dartmoor Avenue, and north on Doyle Street, then to home.

This ranch was completely renovated inside and out.  The large kitchen features a double-sided floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, plus natural oak wood floors.  The kitchen has granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, with a large custom-made island.  The sitting room in the master suite was converted to a 10’ x 10’ walk-in closet with custom shelving, an island with drawers, and a vanity.  Travertine flooring was added in the bathrooms and oak wood floors through other parts of the house, with a walnut border in the dining room.  Carpeting was installed in the master bedroom and lower level.  All electrical was updated, as well as all light fixtures.  Interior doors were replaced with solid double arched panel doors.  The exterior boasts new windows and new exterior doors.  The home was air sealed and further insulated, while two-toned steel siding was installed on the house and garage.  New aluminum soffit and fascia and seamless aluminum gutters were installed.   A stone beltline on the front lower exterior of the home was added, as was a new driveway, front walk, front stoop with columns, and retaining wall.  The back yard was re-landscaped with a new patio for entertaining.

S.J. Janis Company, Inc.: Kitchen, Bathroom, and Family Room Remodel • 1245 Indianwood Drive • Brookfield
Directions: From I-45 and North Avenue, west to Pilgrim Road and south to Gebhardt Road.  West to Indianhead Drive and south to home.

This 1970’s Brookfield home was outdated and lacked functionality in the kitchen and adjacent family room.  The project goal was to produce a well-designed and fully-equipped space, built with quality materials in a contemporary, multifunctional style, with the space more conducive to cooking and entertaining.  The opening of the dining room was enlarged and the view to the family room enhanced by using a wrought iron railing in a double basket design in prefinished black matte.  The kitchen features maple cabinets with granite countertops, a custom glass tile backsplash, and new stainless steel appliances.  The hallway bath and the master bath were completely gutted and updated, with extensive use of decorative tile.  Featured items include a granite top on a wall mounted vanity, extensive tile use including wainscoting, and a chair rail with an accent tile surrounding the mirror and niches.  Flooring from the foyer through the remodeled areas now feature natural Cumaru wood, with carpeting in the family room.

Nehmey Construction, Inc.: Whole House Remodel • 19020 Quail Hollow Drive • Brookfield
Directions: I-94 to Barker Road North.  Barker Road to North Avenue and east to Brookfield Road.  North on Brookfield Road to Quail Hollow Drive and west to home.

Having lived in the home for 25 years, the homeowners wanted to completely transform the interior.  The kitchen was enlarged and the layout modified to provide a more open feel.  Appliances were relocated with a cook top and built-in oven and microwave, while a large island with seating was added.  Installing granite countertops and tile backsplashes enhanced the overall look.  The home’s fourth bedroom was converted to a master suite, with part of the room renovated to become a walk-in closet.  Another portion of the space was developed into a master bath, featuring a walk-in tile shower with granite seat and wall caps.  The vanity has double sinks with matching granite and tile backsplash.  Incorporating the original master bath space, with a separate shower and air tub added into the larger space, increased the main bathroom.  A linen cabinet and matching vanity provides storage space.  On the first floor, a closet was removed, which resulted in additional space in the powder room for a laundry area with a folding table.

The OAR Group Inc.: Two-Story Addition – Kitchen, Mudroom, and Master Suite • 1505 N. Fairhaven Boulevard • Elm Grove
Directions: From Watertown Plank Road in downtown Elm Grove, north on Fairhaven Boulevard to home.

This project features a two-story addition to accommodate a 24’ x 17’open-concept kitchen with large island and raised snack bar for multiple level eating areas.  The kitchen now opens into the living room with full view of the natural fireplace and natural sunlight gained from the front windows.  The new kitchen features white painted maple cabinetry with contrasting black granite countertops, cherry stained oak wood flooring, tiled backsplash, and stainless steel appliances.  The conversion of an un-heated three-season room transformed into a livable heated mudroom with entrance from the garage also allowed for an expanded dining area off the new kitchen.  Second floor renovations include the addition of a master bedroom/bathroom suite, with a second floor laundry room for stackable appliances. The entire home was re-sided, new roof added, and all windows replaced.  A crawl space was added under the new addition.

Refined Renovations, LLC: Kitchen and Family Room Remodel, Mudroom and Screenroom Addition • 18240 San Lucas Court • Brookfield
Directions: West on Greenfield Avenue to San Lucas Drive and north to San Lucas Court and east to home.

This 14-year-old brick Georgian Colonial had become undersized and dated.  The project consisted of a redesign of nearly two-thirds of the first floor, plus adding nearly 1,000 square feet of functional, aesthetically pleasing living area.  With space added to dining and family rooms, laundry, and kitchen, the capabilities and flow of the house was dramatically improved, while retaining the charm of the original home.

Salzer’s Building & Remodeling Co., Inc.: Whole House Remodel • 7108 W. Bluemound Road • Wauwatosa
Directions: On Bluemound Road, just west of 71st Street.

This completely remodeled Cape Cod showcases interior and exterior improvements.  There are two fully remodeled bathrooms that feature ceramic and glass tile on the main floor and vaulted ceilings and skylights in the upper master bathroom.  The kitchen, with maple cabinetry and ceramic floor, opens into the dining area.  Windows were removed and a patio door now leads out to a new deck.  A dormer addition provides a fourth bedroom or office space.  On the exterior, new energy–efficient windows, vinyl siding, and dimensional shingles were installed.

Ware Design LLC: Whole House Remodel • 1913 Hillside Court • Delafield
Directions: West on I-94, exit south on Highway 83, turn right on Hillside Drive to Hillside Court.

This 1970’s Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired contemporary in a wooded location was in serious need of design vision.  The whole house transformation features interior design and architectural updates to the kitchen, living room, dining room, bathrooms, and bedrooms.  Two entirely new elevations were added to include a retreat that serves as a library, den, and grown-up treehouse.  A foyer, laundry, and mudroom were also added.  The project features bespoke furniture, a crystal fireplace for cozy dinner parties, and an “origami” style foyer chandelier.

An added attraction for the 2010 Spring Showcase is an opportunity to win a bathroom makeover from the Kohler Co., which will include a Kohler Cimarron pedestal lavatory and Comfort Height toilet with a Quiet Close Seat, mirrored cabinet, sculpted faucet, toilet tissue holder, towel ring, and towel bar.  Patrons that visit at least four of the project locations will be eligible to register to win the prize package.
